Choosing the right size

The following size guide will help you choose the right suitcase size based on the length of your trip and your personal packing needs. This way, you can quickly find out whether a compact carry-on suitcase is sufficient for a short trip or whether you’d be better off opting for a medium-sized or large model for longer journeys.

What are the maximum permitted dimensions?

The 158 cm rule sets the maximum permitted size for checked-in luggage on flights. This does not refer to a single edge length, but to the so-called circumference. This is calculated as the sum of the suitcase’s width, height and depthIn practical terms, this means: you measure your suitcase along its three external dimensions (including wheels and handles) and add these values together. The result must not usually exceed 158 cm for the suitcase to still be accepted as standard checked-in luggage. If this measurement is exceeded, the luggage may be classified as bulky luggage depending on the airline and incur additional charges.

Sustainable suitcases – travel with the environment in mind, with long-lasting quality

Sustainable suitcases are the modern answer to responsible travel. They combine robust craftsmanship, durable design and eco-friendly materials, so you can travel in comfort whilst conserving resources. Whether it’s a weekend break or a long-haul trip – sustainable suitcases prioritise quality over a throwaway mentality and will last you for many years to come.

At the heart of sustainable suitcases lies the use of recycled and resource-efficient materials. Many models are made from recycled polycarbonate, recycled polypropylene or rPET lining, which is derived from old PET bottles. This reduces plastic waste and transforms it into new, high-quality travel products. At the same time, manufacturers focus on durable designs, repairable components and local production to reduce transport distances and CO₂ emissions.

In addition to the material, lifespan also plays a crucial role: sustainable suitcases are designed to last for many years and, ideally, can be repaired rather than replaced. This significantly reduces overall resource consumption and eases the burden on the environment in the long term.

Recycled and eco-friendly materials

Sustainable suitcases rely on modern materials that conserve resources whilst offering high stability.

  • Recycled polycarbonate or polypropylene for hard shells
  • rPET lining made from recycled plastic bottles
  • Partially bio-based plastics and innovative material blends
  • Reduced use of new fossil-based raw materials

Durability and repairability

A key aspect of sustainable suitcases is their long service life and the ability to replace individual parts.

  • Robust shells for a long service life
  • Repairable wheels, handles and zips
  • Sturdy construction for frequent travel
  • Fewer replacement purchases thanks to high quality

Conscious production and modern design

Sustainability doesn’t mean sacrificing style – modern eco-suitcases combine functionality with contemporary design.

  • Regional or low-carbon production
  • Minimalist, timeless designs
  • Efficient manufacturing processes to reduce waste
  • Focus on long-lasting use rather than short-lived trends

Sustainable suitcases thus represent a new way of travelling: more conscious, longer-lasting and more resource-efficient. They demonstrate that comfort, design and environmental responsibility are not a contradiction, but complement each other perfectly. Anyone who chooses a sustainable suitcase is investing in quality that not only enhances their own journey but also reduces the burden on the environment.
