Three great DISTANCE DESTINATIONS in winter

In autumn and winter, many wish for the sun and warmth back or simply long for a vacation away from home. When winter comes to Germany and everything is Christmas, we are often drawn to faraway places. Not all parts of the world have sub-zero temperatures - many regions lure us with summer temperatures and make us forget the cold. Whether beach vacation, trekking trip or round trip through the most beautiful countries of this earth - with our most beautiful long-distance destinations in winter there is something for every taste and budget.

1. MEXICO

Are you looking for pleasant temperatures and a relaxing time out at the beach? Yes? Then the Riviera Maya on the Yucatán Peninsula is just right and welcomes you with a paradisiacal landscape, great white dream beaches and mysterious cenotes.

Where is Mexico?

Mexico is located in the transition between North and Central America, bordering the USA in the north and Guatemala in the south.

What is the best time to travel?

Autumn and winter are the rainy season in the north and temperatures drop. In the worst case it can even get to sub-zero temperatures. But in the south, on the other hand, it is super sunny and pleasantly mild at this time. In summer, the temperatures climb all over the peninsula. Then it is dry and nice and hot.

What is special about Mexico?

Food: the Mexican elixir of life
Tacos, burritos and tequila are probably the best known dishes from Mexican cuisine. However, they are kept to a minimum in Mexico. This is because dishes like mole, ceviche, quesadillas or tamales are much more famous in Mexican cuisine.

The Popocatepetl & other volcanoes
Nomen est omen: Popocatepetl comes from the Aztec and means something like "strongly smoking mountain". The volcano, located southeast of Mexico City, is one of the highest peaks in Mexico at over 5,400 meters.

Pyramids: Building Arts of the Maya & Aztecs
Probably the largest and most famous pyramid in Mexico is the Mayan pyramid Chichen Itza in the north of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Hiking in the Sierra Norte
Hiking in an environment that is home to several hundred species of birds and butterflies? The Sierra Norte makes it possible. Here, sustainable hiking is the order of the day.

Cenotes: mystical freshwater caves
Beautiful, magical, fabulous . This is a short description of the mysterious freshwater caves on the Yucatan Peninsula.

2. CUBA

In Cuba you can expect hot-blooded joie de vivre, a very friendly welcome culture, dreamlike landscapes, depopulated dream beaches and of course great cities like Havana and Trinidad. Our tip: drive with a classic car through the mysterious, shrill, lively, splendid Havana and relax on beautiful Caribbean beaches.

Where is Cuba located?

Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean and is located at the entrance to the Gulf of Mexico.

What is the best time to travel?

In terms of climate, the best time to travel to Cuba is in our winter. So from the middle of November to the end of April. From mid-May to early November it often gets over 30°C and tropical showers fall.

What is special about Cuba?

The Rhythm
Music flows in the veins of the Cubans. Music is everywhere on the island. In their daily lives and Cuba is impossible to imagine without its rhythm.

3. NEW ZEALAND

Is the long trip to New Zealand worth it? Definitely!

New Zealand has a lot to offer: amazing volcanoes, rugged coastlines, hot springs, jungles, snow-capped alps, fabulous creatures, gorgeous beaches and spectacular fjords on the North or South Island.

Where is New Zealand located?

New Zealand is located in the southern hemisphere about 1600 km southeast of Australia. On a normal world map New Zealand can be found at the bottom right.

This definitely depends on your preferences. If you want to enjoy a lot of sunshine, New Zealand summer is the best time. January and February are the warmest and driest months. For those who love snow and want to go on glacier excursions, the winter months are the best time to travel to New Zealand.

What is special about New Zealand?

New Zealand is not Australia!
Australia is characterized by huge sandy deserts, while New Zealand is more known for its fjords, glaciers and geysers.

No poisonous animals

Four seasons in one day
